David Kerr
Job Title Director of Public Affairs and Public Relations
Role – explain what you do at Strategic Planning I'm responsible for directing the PA, PR, lobbying and community consultation side of projects - be they to do with housing schemes, new schools, hospitals, shopping centres, windfarms etc. It's our job to make sure that stakeholders with influence over planning applications are pro-actively consulted and properly informed about proposals in their respective geographical areas.
Brief background on your career and qualifications My academic background is in law and communications. I worked for Former Northern Ireland First Minister David Trimble as his Press Secretary from 1996-2002 during which time we negotiated the Good Friday Agreement and subsequently set up the first power-sharing Executive in Northern Ireland.
I left politics to develop a career in business and have worked in public affairs and public relations since 2002 advising and acting for a range of private, public sector and charitable organisations.
What do you do outside of work – hobbies, interests etc I enjoy football, mountain biking and water sports. I've supported Manchester City since my time at University there and like to get over to see a few games every season.
Family life – are you married, children, pets? Married to Diane and we have two wonderful boys Robert and Alastair.
If you could have any job in the world for a day what would it be and why? I'm passionate about football, so I would probably take over FIFA, fire some of the idiots who run it and introduce goal line technology and video replays for specific offences and penalty area incidents. Fair play is more important than a few seconds of delay. |
