Foyle Strategic Riverside Masterplan SEA
Project Description Preparing a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) to accompany the Foyle Strategic Riverside Masterplan (Foyle SRM).
Issues Encountered:
- Due to the scale of the study area, ensuring all potential environmental receptors were identified and suitably assessed proved time consuming and challenging.
- The evolving nature of the Foyle SRM during the drafting of the SEA meant that any assessment carried out had to be regularly reviewed and updated accordingly.
Strategic Planning's Involvement Strategic Planning was appointed by Derry City Council to lead a team of environmental specialists to undertake a full Strategic Environmental Assessment for the Foyle Strategic Riverside Masterplan. This was the first SEA to be carried out by a private consultancy in relation to a land use plan in Northern Ireland. Strategic Planning lead discussions with NIEA, who advised on the preparation of the plan and coordinated specialists input to ensure all environmental aspects/impacts of the plan were assessed.
